Dear
Veronica,
It
is with great pride and pain that I present to you this award in
memory of Bob, and the award to be passed on to our in fatigable
treasurer and president, Dr. Howard Hindin.
My
pride stems from the fact that I have been given the honor of
honoring my friend. Bob was a visionary whose struggle to
assert what he knew to be right, caused him great pain but finally
brought him great glory.
Fortunately,
he was able to witness the ascension of his ideas and the trend
towards universal acceptance of them, both here and abroad.
The
impact of Bob’s understanding of the biochemistry of
carbohydrates is his undeniable monument that will be entrusted to
posterity.
He
is an example of a visionary who was persecuted for knowing the
truth before it became clear to the masses.
I
feel pain because I miss Bob’s unflinching determination not to
bend to prejudice and ignorance. I miss this quality more
than any other one. A quality so rare, that it has become
almost a liability.
Veronica,
you reminded me that yesterday was Bob’s birthday. Please
permit me to wish my friend a glorious birthday in the wake of the
epiphany of the world’s recognition that he was right all along.
