What to do about the FLU /

You may have noticed that peak flu season tends to occur during and immediately after the holidays. During the holidays we tax our immune systems by rushing around and eating more and eating poorly. We also consume more alcohol, sleep less and spend more time indoors. This is the perfect feeding ground for the flu virus. When the virus is able to pass from person to person, it gathers strength and mutates so that conventional medicines become ineffective. As you know, antibiotics are only effective (when they are effective) against bacterial infections.

The flu is always of a viral nature. Regretfully, some patients still demand that their physicians prescribe antibiotics for their flu symptoms. At this point the antibiotics become part of the problem not the solution, as they destroy what good intestinal bacteria are left that protect our immune systems and leave it further vulnerable to attacks. Yes, 60% and more of our immune resources are, in fact, in our intestine. (See also Bowel Healing Program.)

Consequently, the best medicine for the flu is, quite literally, Prevention. If one adheres to all of the following basic prevention rules, one can avoid the incoming flu that promises to be particularly virulent this year. Once one has contracted the flu, there are still some things that you can do, and they will be outlined under Early Symptoms and Advanced Symptoms, below.

Prevention /

The best prevention is to keep your immune system in the best of shape and to keep various products and foods on hand. Here is a list of my favorite remedies:

Oscillococcinum is an homeopathic remedy encoded with various viral energetic signals. If one takes it at the first sign of exposure, it can literally prevent an outbreak of the infection. (1 tube per day and can be found in most health food stores.)

Avoid carbohydrates, sugars, alcohol and fast foods.

Consume plenty of healing foods such as green vegetables and free-range proteins.

Get plenty of rest. You’ll need it to compensate for the holiday rush and chores.

Infection pack which contains echinacea, goldenseal and many other anti-viral herbs, B vitamins, malic acid and more. (1 pack per day for prevention.)

Probiotics Plus to improve the intestinal immune defenses are essential. (1 teaspoon per day with any meal.)

Early Symptoms /

If you are achy, sneezing and suspect the worst, because maybe you were not able to follow all of the above recommendations, then increase:

Oscillococcinum, 2 tubes per day.

Infection Pack, 1 packet, twice a day.

Probiotic Plus, 2 teaspoons per day with any meal.

You can also take:

Gluta Path which contains N-acetyl cisteine and other powerful antioxidants to protect you from the inevitable free radicals that follow infection

Advanced Symptoms /

If you have not been able to utilize the above recommendations and have succumbed to the ugly flu, you have no choice but to stay home and spend your time taking care of yourself.

If you don’t have a high fever and are not too tired or chilly, a good Epsom Salt Bath home remedy may be in order.

Meat & Vegetable Extract Concentrate: drink as much as possible throughout the day. If you are unable to cook, substitute with a quality organic or free-range chicken broth.

Oscillococcinum, 3 tubes per day.

Infection Pack, 3-4 packets per day. Reduce by 1 packer per day after your symptoms have subsided. If your stomach is such that you are unable to swallow all of the pills in the pack, use Echinacea Estragalus drops. 2 droppers full, two times a day.

Probiotic Plus, 2 teaspoons with every meal.

Pro Boost powder (a powerful thymus extract) 2 packages, twice a day until symptoms disappear.

Mycoferon, a mushroom extract with powerful immune regulating capacity. 2 droppers full, two or three times per day. Hold in mouth for as long as possible.

If you are not moving your bowels on a daily basis, C Minerals Powder (or Ultra C for those with sensitive stomachs) can be taken to bowel tolerance. (See Bowel Healing Program.)
